sound waves

arch272 - strategies of architectural design, spring 2017
prof. andrea melgarejo de berry + prof. david emmons + ta. min-su chung

inspired by the undulation of sound waves, this model explores heaviness punctured by light. by offsetting the panels or modules, the model gains a dynamic mass. in the dwelling, the study model’s clear material is expressed by small windows that let light into the rooms. although in the study model the heaviness was expressed only in the form, the dwelling includes a heavy material, concrete, to accentuate it. the public areas are defined in spaces larger in every dimension than their smaller, private counterparts. these portions are separated by a two-part stair that is partially public space and partially private space.
